Brockmans Gin

There’s a bottle of gin in the fridge; a rather stylish black bottle with an embossed pattern on part of it along with a red motif and some elegant white lettering. It’s a shame to keep it in the fridge, where it can’t be seen, but we like our gin well-chilled.

Brockmans Gin is delicious. When we opened the bottle there was a wonderful aroma of black fruit -black cherries, blackberries, with a hint of orange zest. As we poured it into a glass we half expected the gin to be a luscious dark purple. In fact it is as gin should be – crystal clear.

We were wrong, there are no black cherries listed in the botanicals but we were right about blackberries and orange peel; and included with them are juniper, blueberries, cassia bark, liquorice, lemon peel, coriander, angelica, almonds, orris.

The botanicals have been steeped in a pure grain spirit long enough to release their natural oils and aromas before being distilled in a 100 year old traditional copper still.

This 40% ABV super-premium gin is stunning, and so smooth we love it neat – hence the need to keep it in the fridge. Should we forget and it is at room temperature we add an ice cube.

However, sometimes we enjoy a longer drink, so we have also tried it as suggested by those clever people at Brockmans serving it with a twist of pink grapefruit peel and a couple of blueberries, along with ice and some quality tonic. Delicious.

We’ve not tried it yet with fresh ginger and ginger ale, but no doubt we will. Brockmans have also come up with some cool ideas for summer drinking which we soon hope to be sampling.

First on the menu is the Brockmans Berry Tea, featuring chilled fruit tea combined with elderflower and red berries.
