We have to confess that we have no plans of following a vegan diet, and to the best of our knowledge neither has any member of the family.
But that said – if we were, for whatever reason, contemplating becoming vegan we would certainly have this cookbook on our shelves. And we do have a lactose intolerant friend – this book will be great news for them.
The photos are a joy to look at
Apart from the clever recipes the photographs, taken we understand by the author herself – Yvonne Hölzl-Singh, are a joy to look at, and the layout of the pages is a delight.
Yvonne, admits in her ‘Dear Readers’ letter that one of the things that she thought would be difficult for her when following a vegan diet would be the lack of milk.
But she discovered she could live without milk, but she did miss cheese.
She experimented and this book demonstrates as she puts it ‘the options for replacing milk products with vegan ones and reinterpreting them’.
Clear and easy to follow recipes
Gently, skilfully and interestingly she takes the reader through basic recipes for the likes of vegan milk, cheese, yoghurt, tofu, cream and butter. Packed with ‘Good to Know’ advice paragraphs and interspersed with ‘Tips’ the recipes are set out in an easy to follow format.
And we have to say, several of the recipes sound so good and straightforward we are going to attempt them for ourselves.
