Bar Boulud

Bar Boulud, part of the Mandarin Oriental hotel, located in glamorous Knightsbridge, a mere stone’s throw from leafy Hyde Park is renowned for its bistro menu featuring house-produced charcouterie and burgers.

Since we were last there Bar Boulud has had a gentle make-over with new upholstery and a long sleek mirror running along one wall making the room look even more stylish than before.

Provence comes to Knightsbridge

This summer a taste of Provence comes to Knightsbridge with Chef-Owner Daniel Boulud and Executive Chef Thomas Piat creating a menu that pays homage to the region’s dishes and wines.

The new Provence menu comes in at £65 for four-courses or £85 when paired with Chateau D’Esclans wines. Hearty congratulations to everybody involved in producing such a treat, it’s superb.

Starters

The Pissaladière with its onions cooked down to a luscious sweet melting consistency and served on a crisp base topped with a salty anchovy was yummy, as was the Barbajuan – a fritter filled with swiss chard and ricotta.

But our favourite (which we could have devoured as a main course) was the Aioli Provencal with its selection of crisp crudités and halved quail’s egg served on a plate with delicious chilled seafood, surrounding a dipping bowl of aioli.

Fish or lamb

The jury is still out as to which was our favourite main course dish. They were both so good.

Rouget au Pistou – perfectly cooked red mullet, on a bed of ratatouille tomato and pepper coulis.

Agneau de lait – olive crusted, melt in the mouth, lamb rump resting on Camargue rice, fennel, artichoke and a rosemary lamb jus.

A favourite dessert

The non-dessert-liker on our table was ecstatic when presented with the refreshing Citron de Menton Givre – a hollowed out lemon filled with a gloriously palate-cleansing lemon sorbet on top of a tangy citron curd topped with a delicate opaline tuile.

bar boulud food 4And one of us was thrilled on spotting one of our favourite desserts on the menu- Tarte Tropezienne.

This lightly citrus flavoured brioche sandwiched with a delicate creamy confection is our idea of heaven on a plate.
