We make no secret of the fact that when we are in the mood to celebrate we do like a glass or two of bubbles.
And we particularly liked the soft, gentle bubbles of Codorniu Frizz – Albariño and Verdejo wines. Both are fruity, medium dry wines from Codorniu one of Catalonia’s Cava producers, and at 5.5% they are also usefully low in alcohol.
The wines are made from fully fermented wines which have been put through a process to lower their alcohol content before undergoing a second fermentation which creates the delicate fizz.
In all honesty we favour slightly dryer wines, but we found them very acceptable well-chilled with nibbles as an aperitif and great for sipping on a warm summer evening in the garden.
We thought the flower decorated bottles a pretty touch which, with their wine, would complement a celebratory afternoon tea. Perfect for a girls’ night out or a hen party too, we reckoned.
Available at All Bar One, Ember Inns and Vintage Inns, £4 per glass and £20 per bottle.
