We were tired after a long, but wonderful coach journey through the Rockies. And hungry too. An early supper was needed, and comfort food was what we had in mind. Wandering down Patricia Street we spotted Famoso – a pizzeria. Perfect! We headed up the stairs into a smallish restaurant with a big pizza oven at one end.
Service, we realised, was a bit different here. We duly filled in our menu choices on one of the printed sheets on the tables and headed for the bar/counter. The pizza selection was vast with a number of wildly different toppings to what we were used to back in the UK.
We decided that a full starter and 11” pizzas would probably be too much for us so we shared a salad followed it with two of the New World Pizzas – served on traditional Neapolitan pizza dough bases. One Italian Ham and Crushed Pineapple the other a Smokey BBQ sauce with Chicken – not at all what we would have chosen back home. You can add additional flavours should you so wish. The pizzas were very tasty too – and we also enjoyed a couple of glasses of the easy-drinking house red. There is a limited dessert choice but scoops of gelato won the day for us.
Whilst you fill in your own menu request and take it to the counter, the food is actually brought to you. No complaints about the service either – it was swift and pleasant. Swift it might have been but there was absolutely no pressure for us to eat and leave. There is a takeaway option as well.
A great place for a relaxed, informal meal. We enjoyed it so much we heartily recommended it to some fellow travellers on the next day’s coach excursion. R.J.P.
