Guylian Chocolates

At Sint-Niklaas, a city tucked away in the Flemish part of Belgium, is a state of the art factory where 250 employees turn their hand to making Guylian chocolates. Since 1960 Guylian has been producing high quality Belgian chocolate made from 100% cocoa butter (vegetable oils are not allowed) from a blend of specially selected West African cocoa beans.

The company’s famous Sea Shells are made from a unique hazelnut praline filling recipe created by the company’s founder Guy Foubert. It involves roasting and caramelizing the hazelnuts before combining them in swirling white, dark and milk chocolate thereby creating the familiar marbled effect seashells and seahorses.

We have become seriously addicted to Guylian’s Extra Dark Chocolate Truffles and can see why these seashell chocolate truffles were awarded the European Three Star Superior Taste Award 2010, presented by independent chefs and sommeliers. Guylian achieved a near perfect score for the truffles ‘intense and balanced taste, and lingering flavor’.

And we also like Guylian’s commitment to Project Seahorse a campaign dedicated to preserving seahorses and other marine life throughout the world. Guylian has been a major partner since 1999. Seahorses function as flagship species for a wide range of marine conservation projects. These magical but fragile creatures are a good indicator of healthy coastal ecosystems. Save the seahorses and we save the seas! Visit www.projectseahorse.org
