Holland – Rotterdam – World Food Festival

The World Food Festival takes place in Rotterdam 18 September to 27 October. The festival will showcase the multi-cultural cuisine of the Dutch city and will bring together urban farmers, chefs, producers and scientists to present the culinary delights and wonders of Rotterdam. With over 170 cultures present in the port city it is a veritable melting pot of culinary diversity.

With large and small events, markets, tastings, workshops, interactive exhibitions, recommended city routes and harbour excursions, the World Food Festival will give visitors a chance to discover the various facets of the food production and distribution chain. The programme will explore culinary trends and the latest developments in the food industry, focusing in on world food issues, the impact of food on health and local initiatives striving to achieve sustainable food production. With a tempting menu of events and activities, the World Food Festival programme will do more than excite taste buds – it also aims to give food for thought!

The Future Food House in Museumpark will be the heart of the World Food Festival and will offer a glimpse of the future of food, culinary trends and developments; and is also where 20 Dutch and international top chefs will be demonstrating, and presenting international flavours and the best of Rotterdam cuisine.

The new festival Rotterdamse Kost, (Rotterdam Cuisine) from 3 – 5 October is a tribute to Rotterdam snack bar classics. Including the best meatball in town – the mini Kapsalon (fries and shawarma on a bed of salad, with garlic sauce and a melted cheese topping) plus, lots of other finger-licking fast-food favourites.

There will also be the opportunity to get behind the scenes of the most extraordinary companies in Rotterdam’s food sector. There will also be a varied programme of mini food events – markets, tastings, workshops and exhibitions and pop- up restaurants.
