Cook Like A Man, the official Movember Cookbook. ‘Movember’? ‘Mo’ evidently is slang for moustache and Movember is an event which has been taking place for the last few years in November when for that month normally clean shaven men grow a moustache in order to raise awareness for men’s health.
This year the Movember movement has got together to launch its first official cookbook with a collection of recipes from chefs from the UK, Spain and Finland designed to inspire good eating.
We approved of the sensible Essential Tools chapter; liked the idea of A Gentleman’s Pantry; loved the Tips for the Kitchen and were seriously impressed by many of the recipes.
Some of the recipes might cause problems with some of the ingredients – we’ve not yet spotted reindeer fillets in our local supermarket (though venison is suggested as an alternative) and the edible live snails will have to wait for an on-line order. But otherwise the ingredients are pretty straightforward as are the majority of the recipes which also sound delicious. Certainly the Chicken Pie, Mash and Green Beans recipe is uncomplicated, as is the Baked Apples with Crème Fraiche. Other recipes included encourage men to make bread, interesting soups and salads, barbecues and even sauces, chutneys and jams.
Alongside the recipe illustrations are some fine photos of men sporting moustaches. www.movember.com
We wish Movember well with its cookery book, and its men’s health campaign.
