Whilst it has nothing to do with food we thought Foody Travellers ought to know about a rare Van Eyck exhibition at the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam taking place from 13 October 2012 until 10 February 2013. More than 80 masterpieces from important Dutch, Flemish, French and German artists from the 15th century will be on show.
Extremely valuable and fragile paintings, sculptures and drawings by Europe’s most important artists of the period, including Jan van Eyck, Jean Maelwael and the Master of Saint Veronica, are coming to Rotterdam from collections in the United States and Europe. Because of the fragility of the works, this is the first (and probably the last time) that an exhibition of this scale on this subject will be held. ‘The Road to Van Eyck’ reveals who inspired Jan van Eyck to create the revolutionary, realistic style he is famous for.
