Book Review – Le Pain Quotidien Cookbook

Delicious recipes from Le Pain Quotidien

Le Pain Quotidien, or in other words, The Daily Bread, began life in 1990 as an artisan bakery in Belgium. It came about because chef Alain Coumont was having trouble finding the bread he wanted for his Brussels restaurant. Today you can find the renowned restaurants (over 200 of them) in over 20 countries.

Written by Alain Coumont and Jean-Pierre Gabriel this super book offers 100 recipes that include breads, tartines, soups, salads and desserts – the dishes that you would find in the restaurants. The aroma of freshly baked bread almost wafts up from the pages of the book the pictures look so enticing – and when the slices are topped with the fillings of the tartines you just want to eat them too.

The restaurants are famous for their sharing dishes too and a number of them are included in the book – the meat balls with black beans sounds delicious as does the pancetta fried rice and wilted greens. And then there are the desserts. You would have to be incredibly strong willed to turn down a slice of the chocolate tart – crisp on the top with a mousse like centre.

As in the restaurants a number of meat free and vegan dishes are included. A delicious book.
