Lovran
Lovran is a pretty, small coastal town which between 8 – 16 June celebrates its delicious, sweet cherries. Restaurants and cake shops sell dishes and goods featuring cherries, and on 8 June a 20 metre long cherry strudel is cooked by a local pastry chef, displayed on the seafront and cut into slices for people to try.
Opatija
Festival Kvarner is a classical concert festival featuring orchestras, musicians and players from both Croatia and abroad. The concerts usually take place in the historical Cristal Hall of the Hotel Kvarner where the famed Crystal Night Viennese balls too place when this region was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
This year the Festival Kvarner takes place 18 -26 June and includes music by Vivaldi and Beethoven plus a special Glagolitic Concert celebrating Croatia’s entry into the European Union on 1 July. Ticket prices start from about £20. Visit www.festivalkvarner.com
