Magija Chocolate Dessert Bar

Whilst not liking dense, rich, dark chocolate cakes or desserts I have to confess to really enjoying an after supper chocolate – or two – preferably dark chocolate please.

I also have fondness, following a week’s vacation a few years back, for the Baltic state of Lithuania.

Magija means magic

So, on hearing that there was a new chocolate candy bar from Lithuania on the block called Magija I wanted to try it. It is available in larger Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Asda and specialist food stores (in the world chiller cabinets) for about £1 per bar.

Evidently magija is Lithuanian for magic! And as far as I was concerned some form of magic had taken place when the manufacturer had taken some creamy curd, added cocoa powder and chocolate chips and whipped it until was light, creamy and almost mousse-like; not content with that they had then coated it with bitter chocolate to form a crisp chocolate shell.

It’s good to eat

I was a bit worried about the amount of calories I might be consuming, but I needn’t have been. Each of the 45g bars contains 183.15 calories compared to an equivalent weight milk chocolate bar which checks in at approximately 280 calories (hmmm); and because the curds from the 41% fat free fresh milk are formed by vegetarian rennet being added to the milk the bars are okay for vegetarians friends too.

It doesn’t contain any preservatives or additives either, so strictly speaking it is advisable to keep it in the fridge.

It was good, I really enjoyed it; it satisfied my longing for a chocolate hit, without being sickly sweet -the bitter chocolate coating balancing the creamy, slightly tangy filling perfectly.

Having tried the Chocolate Dessert Bar and discovered I like it, the next time I am in our large Sainsbury’s I shall head for the chiller cabinet and stock up; just in case I am in need of a chocolate fix!
