It’s taken me many years to find somewhere to eat in Brighton with that ‘certain something’. But the Irish owned Lion and Lobster is definitely it.
In the characterful Montpelier district off Western Road, the vibrant pub gives way upstairs to a roof terrace bar and a warren of intimate panelled dining rooms, furnished like the home of a maiden Regency aunt. Attentive service and fresh, obviously home-cooked food, strong on fish and unusual cuts of meat, warmed the heart. So much so that I returned a few days later. I.C.
