The Red, White & Brew Trail travels through Nelson County, showcasing the very best of Virginia’s craft beers and even wines and ciders. The trail includes four fine craft beer breweries, 10 of Virginia’s top wineries, a hard apple cidery and an array of quality restaurants offering local cuisine. Highlights along the trail include the Blue Mountain Brewery, known for its flagship Full Nelson craft beer, Blue Mountain Barrel House, which offers tastings of a variety of Virginian beers and features complimentary tours, andDevils Backbone Brewery, where travellers can enjoy local cuisine alongside a tasting. Other highlights include Afton Mountain Vineyards, which showcases an ancient wine making technology using a unique gravity processing system and a wine storage cave, and Virginia’s oldest continuously operating winery, the beautiful Mountain Cove Vineyards.
August festivities during Virginia Craft Beer Month include Virginia Craft Brewers Fest – 24 August, which celebrates Virginia’s fine craft beer at the Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company with live music, local food, tastings, yard games and even overnight camping. Alternatively, discover the 16thMircofestivus Festival in Elmwood Park, Roanoke on 24 August , a celebration of Virginia craft beer featuring live music and bands, local cuisine and over 120 beer vendors.
