Personalised Delicious Cookbook

I have long been a devotee of Delicious recipes as a glance along my book shelves or magazine rack will reveal. I love the Delicious straightforward approach to recipes and I don’t think I have, as yet, found a recipe of theirs that hasn’t worked.

Create your own book

But I now have an extra special Delicious cookbook. It’s personalised with my first name emblazoned on the front cover above the words ‘Delicious Cookbook’. Inside is a selection of my favourite recipe chapters, ie  Impressive Main Courses, Family Friendly Meals, Favourite Chicken Dishes, Showstopping Desserts and two of my all-time favourite ideas – Quick and Simple Puddings and Meals which are Ready in 30 Minutes!

Opposite each recipe is a splendid full colour picture of the completed dish. The ingredients are clearly set out and the method for each dish is straight forward in numbered stages. And we really approve of the very useful ‘Know How’ suggestions.

In total Delicious offer a choice of 12 chapters– the other categories being Fish and Shellfish, Sensational Slow-Cooks, Marvellous and Meat Free, Cooking with Spices, Easy Bakes and Traybakes, and Celebration Cakes,

The Showstopping Desserts chapter of my book reminds me I need to buy some dates – I must try the Sticky Toffee Pudding recipe; they say it is ‘the best’, and from the yummy looking picture and list of ingredients it could well be, especially as the hands-on time is only 30 minutes. Just be warned though – the recipes in this section are designed for 8 or more guests!

Quick and simple

My attempts at a clafoutis have previously failed miserably, but the Nectarine and almond Clafoutis in the Quick and Simple Puddings makes me want to try again. I love the idea of using ground almonds, plus nectarines instead of the more usual cherries. There are usually bananas and hazelnuts in this larder – a chocolate loving friend will be over the moon with the Banana and hazelnut Chocolate pots. I will be too as it can be made a couple of days in advance.

Ready in 30 Minutes and Favourite Chicken

Advance shopping for some of the Ready in 30 Minutes ingredients might have to be done. But the dishes sound so tasty I am happy to go along with that. Seared Asian-style beef sounds and looks oh so good. However, there is usually chicken in some form or other in the freezer for the Favourite Chicken Dishes– Pot roast chicken in a Thai curry sauce sounds great and a ‘must try’ is the Roast chicken thighs stuffed with gorgonzola – one dish recipes are always popular with the cook in this household.

Family Friendly…

The Family Friendly Meals are another definite must try We will be eating our way with pleasure through the entire section. Especially the Cornbread Toad in the Hole. Cornbread is a favourite of ours any time, but I for one had never thought of using it in the batter for the sausages. Yummy!

…and Impressive Mains

The Impressive Main Courses are just that –definitely impressive – amongst them, Grilled lamb with a goat’s cheese and herb salad; Beef wellington; Guinea fowl with walnuts and pomegranates; and Onglet steak.

All in all, this cookbook is a great idea – I love it, and the ability to have it personalised, either for yourself, or as a present makes it even more special. It was very much a case of decisions, decisions, as I debated over my choice of chapters. However, I have solved the problem –I shall order another book containing my second choices!
