Kitchen Garden Café, Askham Hall
When we called in at Askham Hall, near Penrith, at the beginning of July 2012 the new Kitchen Garden Cafe was well underway, the outdoor wood-fired oven had arrived and the new chef, Simone Corrias, was due any day.
I had arranged to meet a friend at Central & Co, a brasserie in Great Marlborough Street just off London’s Regent Street. I had not been there before and wasn’t sure quite where it was but much to my delight even from a distance I could see its discreet but clean-cut lettered sign.
Le Cygne, St Omer
Ladies who Lunched! St Omer in Nord Pas de Calais was a long way to go for lunch. A very long way, plus it involved a very early morning start and a very late arrival back home. But it was worth it.
